Frequently Asked Questions

General Joint Permit Questions

Perrydise Permitting, LLC specializes in shoreline project permit consulting and application services for waterfront improvements, erosion control, dock installations, bulkhead construction, and any jurisdictional shoreline projects. We handle the joint permit application process, ensuring compliance with local, state, and federal regulations so your project moves forward smoothly.

Many residential dock projects (if constructed on <12” pilings and NOT in a wetland area) are considered non-jurisdictional by NYSDEC. However, all docks installed in coastal areas and navigable waterways still require approval and permits from the NYSDOS and USACE. Obtaining the required permits prior to construction will save potential headaches and enforcement issues in the future.

Many regulatory agencies require permits for projects in or near the water and/or regulated wetlands. Each agency has varied jurisdiction depending on your project location and scope. Without obtaining the right approvals and permits, you risk enforcement, fines, or having to remove your project entirely.

Yes, but it’s a complex process. Some people spend weeks or months on forms and still make mistakes. This can lead to delays and rejections. Perrydise Permitting saves you time and frustration by handling everything for you efficiently and economically.

We primarily assist clients in New York State, helping waterfront property owners, businesses, and contractors with shoreline permitting across lakes, rivers, and coastal areas.

Shoreline Permitting Process

A Joint Application (JA) is a single application used to get approvals from multiple agencies at once. It’s required for most shoreline or wetland projects in New York State. We prepare and submit the application so you don’t have to worry about mistakes that can delay your project or cause complications in the future.

It depends on the type of project and the agencies involved. Some permits take a few weeks, while others take several months. We speed up the process by making sure your application is correct from the start. We respond quickly to regulatory inquiries to keep the review process moving forward.

Depending on your project location and scope, you may need permits and approvals from:

  • New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (NYSDEC)
  • New York State Department of State (NYSDOS)
  • New York State Office of General Services (NYSOGS)
  • New York State Office of Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation
  • Adirondack Park Agency (APA)
  • U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE)
  • National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA)

We help determine which agencies have jurisdiction over your project and any potential permitting hurdles your project may encounter.
